The Seattle Seahawks have brought back Russell Wilson for another season. The team announced on Monday that they’ve made a roster move, and it involves the backup quarterback position. No new player has been added to the list of quarterbacks on Seattle’s official depth chart, but indications point towards Austin Davis being released from his contract with them.
The “seattle seahawks roster” is a news article that discusses the Seahawks’ decision to make a roster move. The article also reveals the decision on backup quarterback.

Prior to their Sunday Night Football clash against the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Seattle Seahawks promoted quarterback Jake Luton and receiver Phillip Dorsett off the team’s practice squad. Luton will be the Seahawks’ backup quarterback while Russell Wilson recovers from a finger injury, according to the move.
Geno Smith had been the Seahawks’ lone active quarterback prior to the trade. Before Week 6, the Seahawks added Danny Etling to the practice squad, giving them three healthy quarterbacks. Pete Carroll, the Seahawks’ head coach, expressed confidence in Luton, but confessed that he had not gotten many repetitions in practice previous to Wilson’s injury.
During his October 13 news conference, Carroll noted, “Well Jakey’s been in the system, this is his contract, he’s been working to be ready for this chance.” “He hasn’t had much job.” He’s had to put things on the back burner, but I’ve gone back and double-checked his games, including all of the snaps he’s had and all of the passes he’s made.
“We’ve done it previously to see where he is, and he’s capable of making a lot of plays, so we’ve got to keep it very clean for him and make sure that if he gets a chance to play, we don’t burden him and give him an opportunity to do what he does.” He’s got a very nice arm, a really powerful hose, a terrific release, and he’s got excellent accuracy and all that, so it’ll be a little bit of a learning curve as we get started since he hasn’t done a lot of turns. But he’s clearly putting in more practice time right now.”

The Seahawks worked out ex-Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles but did not sign him.
After working out former Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles, the Seahawks decided not to sign him. Instead, the Seahawks re-signed Etling, who spent last season on the practice squad, as the de facto backup quarterback in case COVID-19 disrupted the quarterback room. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Seahawks are unlikely to make a significant move at quarterback in Wilson’s absence, instead opting to rely largely on Smith.
On October 10, Fowler said, “The early word out of Seattle is that they’re going to go with Geno Smith.” “They aren’t going to go for a street free agency like Cam Newton or a deal for Nick Foles. They feel that with this person, they can win. They’ll have to keep the explosive plays to a minimum, I’m informed. It’s not like Russell Wilson, who can slam three touchdowns into the end zone in under two minutes.”
Wilson has been placed on injured reserve, which means he will miss at least three games.
Wilson has not been given an official comeback date by Seattle, but he has been put on the Injured Reserve list, which means he will miss at least three games. Wilson will be out for more than a month, according to CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora, who believes Wilson will return against the Cardinals on November 21.
“Wilson, who was put on injured reserve earlier this week, is set on playing again this season, and given the nature of his operation and the time necessary to rehabilitate and play again, there is every anticipation that will happen,” La Canfora said. “The Seahawks’ game against Arizona in Week 11 is Wilson’s first genuine chance to get back on the field, according to sources, but the future Hall of Fame quarterback, who had never missed a snap before this injury, is trying to return as soon as possible.” He got surgery as soon as he could following the accident.”
